A quartet of crooked men armed with a drill have been sentenced to federal prison by the U.S. District Court in Tacoma for turning back time on dozens of previously-owned cars that they subsequently sold. Specifically, the Puyallup four were found guilty of conspiracy.
Proving that blood is thicker than brain cells, Robert Ristick, 42, was convicted along with his son, Ricky, 23, and the Stevens brothers, Stanley, 28, and Miller, 32. The four either sold or attempted to sell the vehicles they had tampered with at One Stop Auto and RSV Auto.
In the sentencing memorandum, the federal prosecutors, expressing their disappointment in the wayward four, wrote, “Victims of odometer schemes do no simply lose money. They are led to drive vehicles that may be far less safe and reliable than they realize.”
The men were given sentences of 18 months to two years. So, luckily, if you need an auto loan in Puyallup, WA, you can rest assured that you won’t be getting a car with the odometer turned back…at least not by one of these guys!
